Ancient Barite Hematite Quartz Desert Rose Rock Crystal Gypsum Mineral Cluster
Auctions is pleased to offer an absolutely stunning Desert Rose Barite or Baryte crystal mineral. Formed over a period of millions of years through a slow process of evaporation, a Desert Rose is a "blossom" or formation of the minerals Gypsum and Barite with sand inclusions.
The'petals' are crystals flattened, fanning open along characteristic gypsum cleavage planes. The rosette crystal habit tends to occur when the crystals form in arid sandy conditions, such as the evaporation of a shallow salt basin. They can appear either as a single rose-like bloom or as clusters of blooms, with most sizes ranging from pea sized to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. This extraordinary example takes on an almost anthropomorphic form, or indeed formlessness, and is very much reminiscent of certain strains of mid-20th century modernist art.It measures a large 4.75 inches in width by 7.5 inches in depth by 9.5 inches in height (12.0 cm by 19.0 cm by 24.1 cm), including the specially designed, hand-made, iron museum display stand. It is an intact piece and is generally in very good condition. This is a fine collectors piece and would make a worthy addition to any collection of minerals. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago.
